3 Tips For Working From Home When Dealing With An Injury

If you’ve suffered from an injury that will keep you from going to work, but you will still be able to get your job done from home until you’re able to get back into the office, this transition can be a tough one to make. Luckily, there are a few things that you can do to help you continue working despite the injury you’ve sustained, even if you need to move into a care facility for a short time.

Use Your Inefficiency As A Way To Become More Productive

When you’re trying to work through an injury, you likely are going to find that you simply can’t work as long or for as many hours as you did previously. However, this doesn’t mean that you still can be productive and maybe even get the same amount of work done.

When you know you only have so much energy to work from during the day, you can use this to your advantage by being as productive as possible during these times. So rather than wasting a lot of time during the day by being distracted and procrastinating work, make sure you’re using the time that you do have the energy and ability to work to get the most important things done for your workday. 

Take Advantage Of Speech-To-Text

If the injury that you’ve sustained will have an impact on your hands and your ability to type, you’ll want to make sure that you can still get your work done using software and technology that will simplify this for you.

One of the best ways to go about this is to take advantage of speech-to-text software. This will make it so that you can just speak out loud what you’re wanting to take and your phone or computer will type it out for you. While you might have to make a few adjustments for words that the software misheard, this can make work a lot easier if you’re having a hard time typing. 

Focus On Ergonomics

When your body is already hurting from your injury, the last thing you want to do is hurt yourself even more by using your body incorrectly or uncomfortably to get your work done. So to better protect your body, you’ll want to make sure that you’re using correct ergonomics for things like your keyboard, your mouse, your monitor position, your chair and other seating options, your neck and back, and more. This will not only protect your body, but also help you remain comfortable as you work during the day. 

If you’re going to be working from home as you deal with recovering from an injury, consider using the tips mentioned above to help you do this successfully. Make sure to take regular breaks to rest and stretch, set up an ergonomic workstation, and maintain a consistent routine to support both your physical recovery and productivity.
